Most of these works were done at SCAD in my foundation classes.  Graphite has always been one of my favorite mediums because I can achieve a wide range of values.  Charcoal was an experiment yet I learned to like it, especially for portraits because of the smoothness achievable for skin.


Self Portrait

This is the first self portrait of my career.  The goal was to create high contrast shadows and a realistic finish.  It is charcoal on an 18 in. by 24 in. paper.

By using symbolic pieces like the skull, withering flower, burned out light, and aging fruit, this piece reminds us that death is approaching.  It is on 18 in. by 24 in. paper.
